Frequently Asked Questions
Learn More About Lucha Cantina
Where do I park?
Lucha has two parking lots. One is on the east side of the building and is handicap accessible. The other is on the west side of the building and involves some stairs. From either side, you will enter the restaurant through a hallway that goes from one side of the building to the other. The entrance is in the middle of that hallway.
Is Lucha Cantina a chain?
Lucha Cantina is not a chain, but when we opened in Rockford back in 2013 there were a few locations in Colorado. In fact, there were locations in Breckenridge, Georgetown, Colorado Springs and Littleton. Those were owned by a long time friend and none of those locations are open anymore. Lucha Cantina is wholly owned by the Binning family right here in Rockford and there are no other locations.
Do the kitchen and bar close at the same time?
No. The hours listed are the kitchen hours. The bar stays open a little later. We don't kick people out the second the kitchen closes. Kitchen close time is the time orders need to be in by, then we make the food and get it to the table, and then you actually need time to eat it. We aren't going to rush you out and if you want drinks to enjoy your meal with we will be more than happy to help you out with that. The kitchen generally closes at 9pm except on Sunday it closes at 8pm.
How do you describe your menu?
We like to say we offer innovative Latin cuisine. We understand there are many different takes on Mexican food available to you at different restaurants. We aren't trying to be like anyone else and we think our menu shows that. That said, we do take inspiration from restaurants all over Latin America as well as many located state side. Our recipes are rooted in traditional Latin American concepts but with a twist.
Are Chips & Salsa Free?
This has to be one of our most asked questions. At some restaurants, there is no additional charge for chips and salsa (but don't assume they are free, the price is added in somewhere else on the menu). At Lucha we do have additional charge. Why? Because our Chips and Salsa are better. We fry our own chips in house, so they aren't coming out of a bag. Our salsas, we make those from scratch. That means we're dicing tomatoes and cutting up pineapple and take the stems out of habaneros (all why remembering not to touch our eyes - ouch). We have seven salsas that are made fresh in house and we simply couldn't do that without charging. So do we charge, yes. Is it worth it, also yes
I'm Gluten Free, is that OK?
We do everything we can to make sure our Gluten Sensitive guests have a safe dining experience at Lucha. We have fryers marked for Gluten and Gluten Free items and when a guest states a gluten allergy we sanitize work areas to make sure they are as safe as we can make them. But even with all that being done, there is still a chance of gluten contamination. I like to say that we are THE safest place for a gluten sensitive guest to dine and we will always do our best to ensure each and every guest is safe here even with a food sensitivity.
Can I bring my own cake?
We sell dessert at Lucha. In fact, we like to think we sell really nice desserts here. That said, as much as I like our Fried Ice Cream I also like it when my mom makes Banana Cream Pie for my birthday. Do we want every table bringing in their own dessert. No. Do we allow desserts to be brought in for a large party, we sure do.
Can I see a Tequila List?
We are very proud of our tequila list. A significant number of the tequilas on the list are Certified Additive Free. That means when you drink these tequilas you are only drinking water, yeast & agave. Nothing else. If you want tequila that doesn't have glycerin, caramel coloring, oak extract, and jarabe or sugar-based syrup added, then we are your place!
